Life at IES Skellefteå International School
What is it like to learn at an international school?
IES Skellefteå International School provides international students with a high-quality education provided entirely in English, using the world-renowned Cambridge Assessment International Education curriculum.
The international school shares its values, and a building, with Internationella Engelska Skolan Skellefteå, where school life is characterised by a safe and orderly learning environment as well as high academic expectations and aspirations.
While the values and building are shared, lessons at the international school are tailored to an international curriculum. All lessons are held in English, and taught by teachers who have received their teaching degree from reputable universities in countries such as Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom. (This is a key difference from our host school, Internationella Engelska Skolan Skellefteå, which follows the Swedish national curriculum and is a bilingual school, with up to half of the education provided through the English language.)
Students at the international school follow the first three stages of Cambridge Assessment International Education’s curriculum, which provides an education recognised by universities and employers around the world.
Some lessons are held alongside IES Skellefteå students studying the Swedish curriculum, while other lessons are only for international students. In some subjects international students receive both types of lessons.
Lunchtime and play happen alongside IES Skellefteå students, helping international students make friends with children from the local community, and learn about the Swedish language and culture. All international students also benefit from lessons in Swedish as a second language.
