A look ahead: a message from Mr Granström

Dear IES Skellefteå Community,

Once again, I would like to welcome you back from the summer holiday and to the academic year of 2021/2022, and the third year of school at IES Skellefteå.

We have had an exciting start to the year with a total of 80 new students joining us this August. Currently, we have 420 students and 56 members of staff at the school. For me, it is also extra exciting to come back to school after six months of parental leave. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Markusson, my acting Principal and her right-hand woman, Ms Ekenstedt, for their tremendous support and the leadership they have given our community during my absence.

Last year, we placed ourselves among the best IES schools once again in our internal IES survey that all parents, students and teachers took during the Spring term. The results from that survey show:

100 % of our parents recommend the school;

100 % of staff rank our academic environment highly;

 85 % of students rank our pastoral environment highly.

In all areas that are measured in the survey, IES Skellefteå is ranked among the best IES schools in Sweden. We are, of course, very proud of our results and we also know how much work has been put into achieving these fine results. We are a very driven school with great staff and students, which is why we can, and will, continue to improve and make this school better and better with each year that goes by.

This academic year, we aim to improve our learning environment even more by focusing on the following areas:

Improve even further our classroom environment to ensure it is a peaceful place of learning;

Review how we work to ensure all students are challenged to reach their full potential;

Improve even further our corridor environment to ensure it is a calm environment free from distractions;

Implement changes to our Behaviour Policy and the school rules “The Rights and Responsibilities at IES Skellefteå.”

During Spring 2021, we officially opened our international school, IES Skellefteå International School. You can read more about this part of our school community on our website or by sending an email to info.skelleftea@engelska.se. This is a fantastic opportunity for international families and their children to get an international education in Skellefteå and we expect this part of the school to grow during the year and in the future as many more international families are moving to our hometown.

We have a whole academic year planned, filled with teaching and learning, tests, reading challenges, IGCSE exams and many more fun and engaging school activities. Due to the current covid situation, we will make sure to plan all activities with that in mind.

Welcome back to school and let’s have a great year together!

Kind regards,

Mr Granström, your Principal
